Falconer School is a special school in Hertfordshire for 97 boys aged 11 to 16 with social emotional and mental health needs.

Students are offered a broad curriculum including vocational courses such as motor vehicle studies, construction, horticulture and hospitality.

Staff at Falconer School take pride in the development of young people in a safe and stimulating environment and are offered a rewarding and varied career in return.

We have an exciting opportunity for a subject leader of mechanics and motor vehicle technology or construction skills to join our vocational team. This unique opportunity would allow you to set up a new curriculum delivering ABC and/or City and Guilds qualifications to very small groups of students aged 14-16 in an impressive workshop space. We are looking for an experienced practitioner with relevant trade qualifications, recent industry experience, and the passion, knowledge and skills to deliver Entry Level 3- Level 2 qualifications to young people with a range of special educational needs. You will need to have enthusiasm and patience to personalise learning and have the communication skills needed to make network links with local industry to help our students’ transition from sixth form to employment or further training.

You should hold Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent.

You will have high expectations, a love of challenge and a determination to make a difference to the lives of our learners. For the right candidates we can also offer the opportunity for additional leadership responsibility to make full use of any previous experience.

Falconer School follows safeguarding procedures and policies as identified by Hertfordshire County Council.

The role provides routine opportunities for professional development that can lead to specialist SEND accreditation.

Please see the job description and person specification below for full details on the role and the skills, experience and knowledge we are looking for.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged – please contact the school by email c.fox@falconer.herts.sch.uk to make an appointment.

To apply for the role, please contact the school or email the address above and request an application form.
