Year 9 Options
Results at the end of Year 11 are crucial and life-changing, so it is important to make the right decisions about which subjects to choose.
You will all study English, maths, science and core PE and you will all follow a PSHE programme. After this, you may choose four additional subjects from the variety on offer.
In deciding your choices you should consider what subjects you are best at, what subjects you enjoy most, what form of study most appeals to you and what subjects might be needed as the foundations for your future career aspirations.
We strongly advise you to research what studying a particular subject would entail, rather than assuming – do ask your subject teachers and form tutors for advice. Some subjects are entirely new to you, such as motor vehicles, business studies and construction, but some other subjects, which you may feel you know from your Key Stage Three experience, may be very different when studied in Years 10 and 11.
You should make sure you read carefully the information in this booklet and then speak to the subject teachers. Re-read your last termly report too, to get an accurate picture of what you are best at.
So get choosing! This is one of the most exciting milestones in any student’s career. Enjoy the freedom to use your own voice in deciding what you want to do.
In the booklet, we have compiled some detailed answers to frequently asked questions and at the back of the booklet is the form that will need to be completed and handed in to the form tutor or school office.
Best of luck.
Please take the opportunity to watch through these short videos which will give you more information about subjects that are on offer which will be new to students at Key Stage 4.
